The Italian youngster made just one appearance during his time at Leeds.
Last season Leeds United had plenty of players on their books who simply did not make the grade, many of them snapped up by Massimo Cellino via his connections in Italy.
One such player was talented young defender Dario Del Fabro.
The Italian youth international arrived at Leeds from Cellino’s former club Cagliari on a season-long loan deal in August to provide cover in the defensive department.
However his time with the club was not a success, despite his obvious talents.
He played just once in the whole season, a 1-0 loss against Sunderland in the FA Cup in January. He was then implicated as part of the ‘sicknote six’ along with Mirco Antenucci, Giuseppe Bellusci, Souleymane Doukara,Marco Silvestri and Edgar Çani in April – pulling out of a game with Charlton Athletic just 24 hours before kick-off.
Now he is back at Cagliari but, despite the club’s relegation to Serie B, can still not get a game.
With that in mind he is all set to be loaned out again. Del Fabro is believed to be on the verge of joining the Serie B side Ascoli, who were recently promoted back to the second tier of Italian football – as reported by Sardegna Sport.
Del Fabro was a player whom Leeds fans new was talented, but at his age being thrown in at the deep end in a foreign league as tough as the Championship was never likely.
Hopefully he can get some game time at Ascoli when this protracted deal finally gets over the line.
