Chelsea attempted to sign Everton star Stones over the summer.
Stones stayed at Everton past the close of the transfer window, and a report in the Mirror claims that he is set to be offered a new contract.
However, there is one complication in any potential deal, with Stones set to demand a release clause in the contract extension.
Stones going to Chelsea was expected for much of the summer, and a transfer request handed in by the 21-year-old defender looked to have pushed a move close to the edge.
However, the Toffees rejected all approaches made for the centre-half, and Stones remained at Goodison Park as the transfer window closed, with the Blues signing Papy Djilobodji instead.
Despite the failed chance to sign him, Chelsea are expected to return with bids for Stones in both the January transfer window, and next summer, and Everton want to tie him down with a new contract.
However, this will do little to prevent the Blues moving for Stones at a set price, as the youngster will demand the inclusion of a release clause in the deal so he can secure a move to Stamford Bridge in the not-too-distant future.
