Aston Villa are in the market for a new goalkeeper, and have scouted two potential signings.
Southend’s Dan Bentley and Oldham Athletic’s Joel Coleman have both come under the scrutiny of the former Watford goalkeeper Coton, whilst the report claims that Jordan Pickford of Sunderland is still being watched whilst on loan at Preston.
There are no indications that Villa are ready to make approaches for any of the young ‘keepers, but it is clear where Tim Sherwood’s priority lies, and Coton is sure to continue scouting the League One duo.
Who are Dan Bentley and Joel Campbell?
Bentley, 22, is a former Arsenal trainee who moved to Southend in 2009 after being released by the Gunners. He has played 119 times for the club, conceding just 107 goals, and he played a vital role in securing Southend promotion from League Two last season.
The club defeated Wycombe in the play-off final, and he secured the victory with a strong display in the penalty shoot out.
So far this season he has made seven appearances, conceding eight goals and keeping one clean sheet.
Coleman is still only 19, and has only recently broken into the Oldham team after progressing through their academy system. He has played 17 times for the club, conceding 17 goals, and has found himself first-choice stopper this season, conceding five goals in six games and keeping two clean sheets.
