Gooch said: “I think he’ll bring a lot of pace, and he works really hard, and I think he’ll be a good addition to the team. He likes to get forward, get up and down the wing and get crosses in, but he’s solid defensively.”
Gooch also revealed that he played against Yedlin at youth level, and that his US compatriot was a tough opponent to come up against as an attacking player.
Yedlin is not available for action this weekend, as Sunderland get their Premier League campaign back underway against Spurs, and the right-back is unavailable to play against his parent team.
Dick Advocaat was always looking to bring in another full-back, and Yedlin has the capabilities to also perform in a wide midfielder role if needed. Billy Jones has struggled this term, whilst Adam Matthews is suffering from injury, meaning Yedlin will need to make his mark upon the first team as soon as possible.
Gooch has highlighted his strengths as being traits important to Advocaat, and the 22-year-old looks to have been a wise signing by the Dutch boss.
