But the Tweet was to congratulate Rooney on his England scoring record.
This weekend Manchester United and Liverpool will face off in one of the most hotly anticipated games of any Premier League season. The bitter rivals will go toe-to-toe at Old Trafford on Saturday evening in a game that is set to be full of strong challenges and the usual to-and-fro of such a tie.
The captains on the day are likely to be Wayne Rooney for Manchester United and, if he can regain his fitness, Jordan Henderson for Liverpool. The latter is still earmarked as a doubt for the game but will hope to prove his fitness so he can clash with his United counterpart for North-West supremacy.
Although, ahead of the game, feelings between the pair are far from acrimonious.
Henderson sent this congratulatory Tweet Rooney’s way this morning.
Of course this was in reference to Rooney’s penalty striker against Switzerland yesterday. It was his 50th goal for England, which saw him overtake Sir Bobby Charlton as England’s record goal-scorer.
So Henderson, who is of course an England team-mate of Rooney’s, was right to wish the United rival well on his milestone being met.
However, if Henderson does prove himself fit for Saturday, Liverpool fans will hope any of these friendly feelings are left at home.
