Oduwa and Ball have impressed at Tottenham so far this season, but Spurs ambassador Gary Mabbutt has told the Daily Record that he believes they still face a challenge when they return to White Hart Lane.
Mabbutt, a club legend in North London, said: “Playing time is important for the younger ones and you may not get as much of it as you want into some of them, so going out on loan gives great experiences. We had Alex Pritchard and Tom Carroll out last year and they are now back in the squad and retained for this season. The challenge for the likes of Nathan and Dominic is to do the same.”
Mabbutt wants to see Oduwa and Ball replicate Tom Carroll and Alex Pritchard, who spent loan spells away from Spurs last season and are now fighting for their place in the Tottenham first-team.
Pritchard especially impressed whilst with Brentford, and he is most likely to make the step up to Mauricio Pochettino’s team on a consistent basis. Carroll is slightly behind the curve, but will still make frequent appearances for Spurs this term.
Playing well with the Gers will increase their chances of making it at White Hart Lane, but it would not come as a surprise to see them spend another few years away from the club, probably in a higher division, before breaking into the first-team set-up in North London.
