Dennis Praet has one regret over failed switch to Aston Villa and West Brom

Belgian international Dennis Praet has been reflecting on his summer disappointment.

Dennis Praet has admitted he found this summer's transfer talk a distraction and was mentally prepared to leave Anderlecht.

In an interview with Belgian publication Nieuwsblade, he admitted he found the speculation hard to deal with.

As Nieuwsblade report, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion were the two Premier League sides to show an interest, alongside Spanish and German clubs.

Praet said: "I kept focusing on Anderlecht, but eventually the transfer troubles sneak automatically in your head and your football is not as good as you want. Sometimes I thought: This is it. I am leaving. After that it fell through. Difficult."

The 21-year-old midfielder spoke candidly, and went onto suggest doing so earlier in the summer was his one regret.

He added: "My only fault is that I spoke too quickly about a transfer."

The Birmingham Mail reported in early August that West Brom were considering paying as much as £10 million to land the prospect.

The Guardian had also linked Aston Villa with a move for the highly rated prospect, claiming they had made an enquiry for Praet.

He remains at Anderlecht where he will come face to face with Premier League opposition later this year when they come up against Tottenham Hotspur in their Europa League group.

In six games for his club this season he has scored twice, with 23 goals for them across his fledgling career to date.
