Cagliari president highlights Massimo Cellino advice, wants friendly with Leeds United

Thomas Giulini has been speaking about the last time he spoke to the Leeds United owner.

Before he took over at Leeds United and went on to become one of the most infamous owners in English football Massimo Cellino had a long and fairly prosperous time in charge of Italian side Cagliari.

They were recently relegated to Serie B and have a new owner in Thomas Giulini. He has been speaking to the press in Italy this week. He even had time to speak about Cellino and his time at Leeds. He spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about Leeds, admitting he would like to play them in a friendly, and the advice he has been given by Cellino about being in the second tier.

He stated:

“I've heard they were close to relegation [when I last spoke to Cellino in January], he can understand what I felt.

“Now we have to organize a friendly match with Leeds, maybe we do if we go to them they will be in the Premier League.

“He told me that a demotion on the field there may be, but a club must never retreat from the economic point of view."

It is certainly nice to hear that the Cagliari boss thinks he might be facing off against Leeds as a Premier League club when this apparent friendly is arranged and that Cellino has sound advice for him regarding survival at this level.

This summer Cellino has taken a backseat at Elland Road, letting Adam Pearson be the face of the club. However he has done a good job in terms of financially stabilising the club, something he is advising to his friend in Cagliari.

Hopefully Leeds and Cagliari can go toe-to-toe next summer as top flight clubs once again.
