Gallery: Ireland edge out Georgia, and edge closer to France

The Republic of Ireland took a big step closer to the play-offs to qualify for Euro 2016 in France with a 1-0 win over Georgia.

The Republic of Ireland cemented their position in third place in their Euro 2016 qualification group with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Georgia in Dublin.

Jonathan Walters got the only goal for Martin O'Neill's men who now have the chance to make the play-offs for qualification for the tournament in France in their own hands with two difficult remaining games against Germany and Poland remaining.

Ireland are now four points clear of fourth-placed Scotland meaning a win from one of their final two games will mean they will make the play-offs in November, but failure to pick up any points from their remaining two games keeps the door ajar for Scotland to snatch the place off them.

For now, Martin O'Neill's side is in pole position and host the World Champions at the Aviva Stadium next before travelling to Poland to conclude their group stage campaign. In reality, they realise the key games will be when Scotland host Poland, and potentially when the Irish travel to Poland in order to determine the outcome of that final play-off spot in the group.

But last night, Ireland put themselves in the driving seat with a crucial win over one of the group's minnows, and here are the best images from last night's action:
