Aston Villa midfielder Idrissa Gueye injured on international duty

The 25-year old has made a strong start to life at Villa Park.

Aston Villa face an anxious wait over the fitness of summer signing Idrissa Gueye, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Senegalese midfielder missed his nation’s final training session yesterday, ahead of their clash with South Africa, and will have a scan later today to determine the extent of the injury.

Africanfootball.com claims the hamstring injury was sustained during Senegal’s 2-0 victory over Namibia on Saturday and Villa fans will be hoping for good news on one of their stand-out players this season.

Villa were among the most active clubs in the transfer window this summer and Gueye may prove to be the pick of their incomings.

The former Lille man has adapted well to Premier League football, and while he still possesses some naïve elements to his game, he has shown enough glimpses to suggest a top quality player could soon emerge.

His presence alongside Jordan Veretout and Ashley Westwood has given the Villains a nice balance between technical operators and combativeness, and a prolonged absence for the 25-year old will be sorely felt.
