We would say Fabian Delph can't catch a break right now, but that may only curse him further.
You could not be blamed for thinking former club Aston Villa put a hex on him after he walked out on them in the summer to sign for Manchester City.
Fans had labelled him a snake after the remarkable u-turn, having pledged his future to Villa a week earlier.
His appearance for England against Switzerland was a disaster last night, injured just seconds in and substituted off for Ross Barkley.
This gif quite accurately summed up his performance, never really getting started and providing a conundrum for writers compiling player ratings for newspapers and websites up and down the country.

It was the second time in his short career at Manchester City so far that Delph has suffered an injury, previously going down on his debut just minutes into a pre-season friendly.
Aston Villa supporters reacted with predictable amusement to Delph's poor luck, still smarting over his badly handled summer departure...
villa stuck by him through injury, highly doubt man city will, probably be off loaded to sunderland in the summer, deserves it all, #delph— Villan (@twinny_avfc) September 8, 2015
Delph has played only 17 minutes of Premier League football so far, making a slow start due to his previous hamstring injury, and now faces a further spell on the sidelines.
Manchester City fans reacted with a mixture of feeling sorry for the midfielder, and worry the club has bought a crock...
Thought £8m was a bit cheap for Delph. We should have paid a bit more for the 'Premium' model with both hamstrings.— ant Henderson (@MrHenderson89) September 8, 2015
To all the people who thought Delph would be the new Rodwell... You were right. Well done— Robert Mckie (@RobMcKieCTID) September 8, 2015
If Delph is to become our main injury concern this season then I'll take that right now #mcfc— Andy Johnson (@AndyAj77) September 8, 2015
Delph....I thought snakes didn't have legs. Hahaha. We signed another Jovetic! #MCFC— Steve Ashton (@SteveLAshton) September 8, 2015
Gutted for Delph, hopefully its not a bad one! #mcfc— Danny Lennon (@danny_motion) September 8, 2015
