Potential good news for Arsenal ahead of this weekend.
Arsenal may yet be able to field their first choice defence this weekend against Stoke City.
The Gunners are hoping to record their opening home win after the season, having gained just one point at The Emirates so far.
Gabriel Paulista and Calum Chambers featured against Liverpool, while Paulista and Laurent Koscielny played against Newcastle, both games in which the club kept clean sheets.
Mertesacker had been missing with a virus, while The Mail reported yesterday that Kosicelny missed France's friendly versus Serbia with a back problem, the same ailment which caused him to sit out the Liverpool draw.
A fresh report in The Sun however offers new hope, claiming Arsenal have denied the reports that he has re-injured himself, and report Koscielny will be available to face Stoke City.
The paper also claim Mertesacker is expected to be fit to feature, against a team which has struggled at The Emirates in recent seasons.
With Stoke's physical approach, mixed with a new finesse of wingers Xherdan Shaqiri and Ibrahim Afellay, the centre-backs are likely to be key to Arsenal's success this weekend.
The good news is Gabriel Paulista has proved himself capable over the past two games, effective yet unsung, so if either do not make it then Arsenal should remain confident of getting their first home win.
