Derby County are keen on signing West Brom striker Anichebe on loan.

According to the Daily Mail, Derby County are still interested in completing a deal for Victor Anichebe of West Brom, with the emergency loan window opening later this week.

The Rams had been hoping to complete a deal to sign Anichebe before the close of the transfer window last week. The Sun claimed that the Championship side wanted the forward on a permanent deal, and were eyeing a £3 million move for the 27-year-old.

However, no transfer could be finalised before the pass of the deadline, and instead Paul Clement is ready to return for the striker on a temporary deal when the loan window opens on Wednesday.

Anichebe is not the most prolific striker around, but the Sun report claimed that Clement wants a more physical presence to select upfront. The West Brom man only netted three goals in 21 league games last term, but he can lead a line well if playing in a lone striker system.

The Mail claim that the Championship side retain their interest in Anichebe, and are ready to make an approach in the coming days, when the window opens allowing players to move to the Football League on loan.

It is expected that West Brom will sanction his departure, with Tony Pulis having three first-team forwards to choose ahead of Anichebe, as the manager can call upon Saido Berahino, Rickie Lambert and record signing Salomon Rondon.
