Report: Barcelona target high-flying Leicester midfielder Riyad Mahrez

King Power Stadium - Stormy

Barcelona will look to Leicester's Riyad Mahrez as one of a few options in the January window.

According to the Daily Mail, Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez is a surprise candidate to replace Pedro at Barcelona.

After the Algeria international’s flying start to the new season, reports suggest that Barcelona scouts have been alerted to his performances and plan to watch him again over the coming weeks.

Having played a pivotal role in keeping Leicester in the Premier League last season, Mahrez has already scored four Premier League goals to lead the charts this time round, alongside Swansea's Bafetimbi Gomis.

The 24-year-old signed a new four-year contract with the Foxes last month, tying him to the club until June 2019. However, following the departure of Pedro, who joined Chelsea this summer, he has been included on the Catalan giants’ shortlist of potential replacements.

Luis Enrique's side have begun the defence of their La Liga title in expected fashion, winning both of their opening two fixtures. Nonetheless, they remain keen to bolster their attacking options when the window re-opens in January.

Having converted 60% of his total opportunities in front of goal, while fashioning a further two key passes per appearance, it perhaps comes as little surprise to see Mahrez being courted by some of the continent’s top clubs.

Alongside the Algerian, Manchester City’s Jesus Navas, Celta Vigo’s Nolito and Arsenal’s Theo Walcott also feature in the La Liga outfit’s list of potential targets.
