Former Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson has named Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney among the best players he has played with in his career.
Speaking on The Fantasy Football Club broadcast on Sky Sports 1 last Friday, the 35-year-old included his former England international teammate in his ‘One2Eleven'.
Rooney is one of the best footballers in the world and arguably the best player in the current England squad.
Robinson has named another of his former England international teammates among the best players he has ever played with: Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard, who has now retired from international duty, was one of the best midfielders in the world in his prime.
Robinson, who started his career at Leeds and then moved to Tottenham before joining Blackburn in 2008, has named Nigel Martyn (Leeds), Michel Salgado (Blackburn Rovers), Ian Harte (Leeds United), David Beckham (England), David Batty (Leeds United), Harry Kewell (Leeds United) and Mark Viduka (Leeds United) in his ‘One2Eleven’.
Explaining on the The Fantasy Football Club, Robinson said: “I toyed with the idea of putting Lucas Radebe in here because he wasn’t orthodox. The initial team I picked at home, I crossed him out and put this lad in (King).
“I played with him at Tottenham and so many players have said it: bar injuries, he would be the best and would have won a lot more England caps and a lot more club appearances as well.”
Below is Robinson’s best XI comprising of the best players he has played with in his career:
Michel Salgado - Rio Ferdinand - Ledley King - Ian Harte
David Beckham - Steven Gerrard - David Batty - Harry Kewell
