Mark Lawrenson has suggested in The Liverpool Echo that former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is not completely wrong in his assessment of the current Liverpool squad.
Last week, former Tottenham boss Redknapp said at the Telegraph Total Football Live event: “ I don't fancy Liverpool at alI.
“I think it's the worst Liverpool team I have seen in years. They look bang average. They are lucky to have any points.”
Liverpool legend Lawrenson has responded to the former Spurs manager’s critical comments about Brendan Rodgers’s side in his column in The Liverpool Echo.
“Harry Redknapp stuck his oar in by saying this is the worst Liverpool team in years, but that’s Harry for you – he’ll probably change his mind in a few weeks,” the 58-year-old wrote in The Liverpool Echo.
“But his comment that he is ‘not with Liverpool at all this year’ has struck a chord. Not least because it appears some of the supporters feel the same way.”
Mixed start to 2015-16 Premier League campaign
Liverpool have made a rather mixed start to their 2015-16 Premier League campaign.
The Reds defeated Stoke City 1-0 away from home at the Britannia Stadium in their opening game of the season.
Rodgers’ side then defeated Bournemouth 1-0 at Anfield, before holding Arsenal to a goalless draw away from home at the Emirates Stadium in North London.
Just before the international break Liverpool suffered a 3-0 home defeat to West Ham United, a result which has raised doubts over their top-four credentials.
