Manchester United signed teammate, and my transfer chances ended, says Premier League linked star Kamil Glik

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City had both been linked with Torino's Kamil Glik.

Torino defender Kamil Glik has admitted his chances of a move away from the club ended when Manchester United bought teammate Matteo Darmian.

Tuttomercatoweb reported his comments, made to sports.if, looking back on the recently closed transfer window.

It was reported during the summer by ForzaItalianFootball that Manchester City were considering a bid for the Polish international, while The Sun had linked Tottenham Hotspur with an offer of £8 million for the player.

Glik appears perfectly content to remain with Torino, who finished ninth in Serie A last season.

He said: "The rumours about my future? I'm not disappointed that I am in Turin. Indeed, I have always been clear and I never expressed my intention to leave.

"After the sale of Darmian to Manchester United, it was evident (I'd stay) as my coach Ventura did not want to lose two defenders in a short time. I will respect my contract with Torino."

Tottenham went onto sign central defenders Kevin Wimmer and Toby Alderweireld, while Manchester City splashed out on Nicolas Otamendi.

The one club who were linked and did not sign an alternative were the side who bought his teammate Darmian. Tuttosport had reported Manchester United joining the chase for Glik back in May.

27-year-old Glik has a contract running until 2017, so there remains a possibility Torino could seek to cash in next summer to prevent him leaving on a free 12 months later. He scored an impressive eight times from central defence last season.
