Manchester United game perfect remedy for Liverpool, says Ings

Liverpool Wall

Liverpool need to bounce back after a heavy defeat to West Ham United, and the game against Manchester United is a perfect opportunity to do so.

Liverpool’s upcoming game against Manchester United is the perfect opportunity for them to banish memories of the defeat to West Ham United, Danny Ings has told the club’s official website.

The Reds were beaten 3-0 by Slaven Bilic’s side in the Premier League before the international break, which brought an abrupt end to Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool side's positive start to the season.

The Merseyside outfit take on United next, who also suffered defeat last time around to Swansea City, making the clash at Old Trafford a must-win one for both sides despite it coming so early in the campaign.

“I think any game after a loss like that all the lads will be chomping at the bit to play and put things right,” Ings told liverpoolfc.com. “With the quality we’ve got at this club, I’m sure we can do that.

"It’s a learning curve. A lot of the other teams at the top end [of the table] lost at the weekend as well but it’s a huge learning curve for us moving forward to make sure we don’t step our foot off the gas.”

Three key areas Liverpool must match United in

The forward also believes that both sides are matched in quality this season, having both improved their squads over the summer.

Liverpool did this after a disappointing season which saw them miss out on a Champions League player after their impressive second-place finish the year before, while United were trying to capitalise on having made it back into the top four.

Although he believes that they are evenly matched, Ings says that the Reds cannot afford to lose concentration and must match Louis van Gaal’s side in three key areas if they want to win the game.

“It’s a place when you can’t lose concentration for a single moment,” Ings told liverpoolfc.com. “They’ve obviously got as much quality as us so it’s important we come out on top on the day.

"We need to match them up physically, mentally and tactically which I’m sure we will do and I know we’ve got enough quality to win the game.”
