When Matteo Darmian first arrived at Manchester United earlier this summer, many of the club’s fans will have been unaware of just how good the Italian international is.
But after just six appearances for Louis van Gaal’s side, the 25-year-old has proved emphatically that he is the right-back United have been crying out for since Gary Neville retired.
Darmian has played his part in four United clean sheets in six outings to date, and time and again he has shown that he is brilliant both in defence and attack, bombing forward but never outpaced when it comes to protecting his back-line.
This weekend the United star made his 16th appearance for Italy in a Euro 2016 qualifying match against Bulgaria, and again he impressed as his side kept the visitors at bay and secured a 1-0 victory courtesy of an early strike from Daniele De Rossi.
The goal-scorer may have later been sent off but by then he had made the difference in the right way and Italy are now two points clear at the top of their group.
United look set to benefit from Darmian’s blossoming talent for years to come, and the same can be said of his country who are now one step closer to next summer’s prestigious tournament.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what United fans thought of their right-back’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:

Darmian has had a good game for Italy today against Bulgaria. Hasn't made an error, and he's committed himself in a lot of attacks.— Manchester united (@United_report1) September 6, 2015
Italy's defence has always been impressive, Chiellini-Barzagli as centre-backs, with Darmian and Criscito/Pasqual bombing down the flanks.— • (@UtdDi) September 6, 2015
