Taking a closer look at Newcastle United's talented Slovakian defender.
Newcastle United have made some impressive signings this summer, with young defender Chancel Mbemba already suggesting he could be the pick of the bunch with some brilliant performances in the Magpies’ back-line.
But for all their new faces, Newcastle also have some very talented youngsters on their books hoping this season will be their breakthrough campaign.
One of those is centre-back Lubo Satka, who made his debut for the club last season as a substitute in the FA Cup match against Leicester City.
But after that tantalising glimpse, the young Slovakian may get more chances in the cup competitions and potentially in the league under manager Steve McClaren.
Satka may only be 19, but he is a composed, hugely talented defender whose performances often do not reflect his age.
He regularly captain’s Newcastle’s under-21 side and while Mbemba’s arrival means he may not get too many chances this season, injuries and suspensions could see him drafted in.
Then of course there are the cup competitions, with Satka possessing the talent needed to impress at that level if called upon.
While some of Newcastle’s next generation are currently on loan to further aid their development, Satka remains at St James’ Park and he will be on hand if needed – just as he was last season when he made the bench for league games on six occasions.
Do not be surprised if that is the case again at times this year, with more first-team appearances likely to follow if he continues on his current trajectory.
