Hugo Lloris is impressed with new France teammate Anthony Martial.

The Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper spoke at a press conference, which was reported by FootMercato.

Martial made his debut for Les Bleus in a 1-0 friendly win over Portugal on Friday night, coming on for the last 15 minutes as a substitute for Real Madrid's Karim Benzema.

The youngster signed for Manchester United on transfer deadline day from Monaco, for a fee reported by The BBC to be £36 million.

Lloris believes Martial can be an important player for France over the coming years, although did offer caution over immediate expectations.

He said: "From tomorrow or in the future, he will serve the France team. He has the potential to become a great player but we must take the steps one after the other."

Martial was a priority to bring off the bench for Didier Deschamps than Olivier Giroud, who played just the two minutes against Portugal.

With all eyes on his progress at Old Trafford, he has the potential to earn the opportunity to be part of the France side at Euro 2016, a tournament at which he could really establish himself on the international stage.

Lloris of course was linked with a move to Manchester United early in the transfer window, a rumour he addressed at the weekend, quoted by The Mail: "There could have been a development there but the desired movement didn't happen.

"I have a lot of affection for Tottenham. I feel respected, I have a very good relationship with the staff and I'm ready to play the best season possible."
