The Welshman has been in fantastic form this season.
Wales’s defender Ashley Williams has been imperious in the past few seasons. The Swansea City man has been a star, not just for Swansea, but for his international team and that has left him linked with plenty of teams in the past.
Two teams that have been rumoured as keen before are Arsenal and Liverpool. Arsenal were linked for a couple of summers whilst Liverpool were linked as recently as April by The Mirror.
In the end he stayed and has gone on to impress more and more in the white of Swansea and the red of Wales and surely establishing himself as one of the best central defenders in English football.
One man who might have once held that crown cannot believe Liverpool or Arsenal never made a move for the player.
Rio Ferdinand, who was himself a similar style central defender to Williams, sent out this Tweet whilst watching Williams in action against Israel in Wales’s crucial European Championship qualifier earlier today:
Just watchin the Wales boys. how Arsenal or Lfc haven't gone for Ashley Williams last few yrs is beyond me-better than what they have bought— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) September 6, 2015
It is certainly a fair point. Williams does not get the credit he deserves for his exceptional talent which he continues to highlight for both club and country and would have likely been a credit to both Arsenal and Liverpool if they had made the move for the player.
