The Chilean forward scored his first goal of the season today.
Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez certainly had a night to remember for his nation yesterday, as he netted the winning goal for Chile against Paraguay in a dramatic friendly fixture.
Chile took the lead in the game through a goal from FC Twente winger Felipe Gutierrez.
But Paraguay fought back. Goals from Jonathan Fabbro and Jorge Benitez had them in the lead until the 64th minute of the game when Gutierrez grabbed his and Chile’s second of the game.
That’s when Alexis stepped up to the plate and earned his spurs as Chile’s talisman in this all South America clash.
Playing through the middle for the Copa America holders he charged into the box and picked up on a cross from the left-wing, before smashing the ball beyond the helpless Antony Silva in the Paraguay goal with just eight minutes left on the clock.
For Sanchez it was an important goal. It was the first time he has hit the back of the net this season, after a tiring summer representing Chile clearly took something out of him.
Arsenal fans will be hoping that he returns full of vigour from his international heroics.
