The Argentine international is seemingly on his way from Paris Saint-Germain when his contract ends in 2016.
Earlier this summer the Argentina international was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, with Italian website TMW publishing an exclusive claiming the 30-year-old had agreed a deal in principle to sign for Spurs during the last transfer window.
Well that has now been and passed and while Tottenham signed a number of new players Lavezzi was not one of them.
That means the left winger is now in the final year of his contract and it seems he does not expect to be signing a new one any time soon.
In the comments published this weekend, the PSG player said, “I think it’s my last year in Paris. But I’m okay and I want to finish it the best possible way. You never know what can happen. Today I want to stay, tomorrow we’ll see.”
At 30, Lavezzi was always going to be an unlikely signing for Tottenham when the club needed to pay for him.
As a free agent, he may become considerably more appealing although with the recent addition of Heung-Min Son the North London club are in far less need of another left-sided player.
That could well see Lavezzi move elsewhere, and when you consider his dwindling impact in the French capital and his age, Tottenham may be wise to steer well clear.
