The Italian international's agent has confirmed that West Ham were in touch recently.
The Italian was one of a number of striking options linked with a move to West Ham in the past few weeks, as they looked to bring in a new striker to solve something of a shortage up top.
Now Christian Maifredi, the player’s agent, has confirmed that the Juventus striker was indeed interesting West Ham manager Slaven Bilic as a potential option to solve their problem.
"We have had contact with [West Ham]. They have expressed concrete interest.
"Zaza is much appreciated by the coach [Bilic].
"But Juventus has never expressed a desire to sell him.
"He strongly desired that his move to Juventus came true.”
West Ham were of course short because of injuries to both Enner Valencia and Andy Carroll. Several names were mentioned, with Zaza just one of them.
In the end Bilic got an old favourite, with the arrival of Nikica Jelavic from Hull City – a player he used to manage when in charge of the Croatian national team.
On top of that they also moved for Emmanuel Adebayor, in a deal that did not get done in time, and snapped up Victor Moses from Chelsea on loan.
Zaza will be hoping to now stamp his authority on a first-team place at Juventus, where he has finally been given a shot after a co-ownership with Sassuolo came to an end.
West Ham will however be keeping tabs on a player Bilic clearly rates highly.
