Tottenham Hotspur have a new forward who has the talent to shine at White Hart Lane.
In the immediate aftermath of the latest summer transfer window, the most-talked about subject was arguably Saido Berahino’s proposed move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Time and again Spurs made offers that were swiftly rebuffed by the Baggies hierarchy, with deadline day seeing a frustrated tweet from the player himself but no ultimate change in the situation.
When the clock ticked past 6:00pm Berahino remained a West Brom player and Tottenham fans were left bemoaning their lack of quality alternatives to striker Harry Kane.
But that may not be the whole story, with Tottenham signing a player earlier in the transfer window who could now take his chance to blossom at White Hart Lane.
Clinton N’Jie is the same age as Berahino and while he is not as prolific that does not mean he could not take his new club by storm.
After all, with Kane the only out-and-out forward currently in favour at the club, N’Jie is likely to be called on to play either alongside him or instead of him in the months ahead.
N’Jie is predominantly a centre-forward who can also operate on either flank if required but it was as a striker that he shone for former club Lyon last season, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists in 30 Ligue 1 matches.
It may well be that N’Jie is used as one of a new-look front-three with Kane and fellow summer signing Heung-Min Son, but whatever happens, N’Jie now has the chance to impress week in, week out; something that may not have happened if Berahino had arrived.
It also means the Cameroon international has until January to prove that Tottenham do not need to go back into the market for another forward, so watch this space; it should be an interesting few months…
