The Lyon playmaker is set for six months on the sidelines.
Earlier this week one of the hottest prospects in French football admitted he would love to one day play for Manchester United.
The player in question is Lyon attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir.
He is quoted by Goal as stating:
"Playing for Manchester United one day? Why not. it's a club that makes you dream, but we're not there yet.
“The need to have a good season at Lyon comes first, and then, we'll see.”
Certainly something for Manchester United fans to get excited about in the future, especially as Fekir is a former youth team-mate of recent splurge Anthony Martial during his time at Lyon.
Last night however, during a game which saw Martial make his international debut for France, Fekir suffered a very serious injury problem.
He crumpled to the ground in the 14 minute of the game and it was soon confirmed that the 22-year-old talent had succumb to a nasty knee injury.
The attacking midfielder suffered ruptured knee ligaments and will now miss the next six months of the season, ruling him out until the New Year.
Of course Fekir’s fitness is not of immediate concern to Manchester United.
But a player of his talent who openly courts a United move is surely a target for the club going forward. An injury like this can have adverse effects on a player throughout their career so United fans, as much as France and Lyon fans, will be hoping Fekir makes a full recovery.
