The Argentine featured in a comfortable win against Bolivia last night.
Tottenham Hotspur fans are probably amazed that they still have Erik Lamela at the club. The attacker has been a flop considering his price-tag when he arrived at White Hart Lane in 2013 from AS Roma and he was seemingly on the move this summer.
Marseille wanted him, as did numerous teams in Italy but it would appear that Tottenham’s inability to bring in Saido Berahino from West Brom made any potential sale impossible for Spurs to consider.
But whilst he is struggling still at Spurs he appears to have climbed back up the pecking order for Argentina.
He started last night for the Albiceleste as they took on continental rivals Bolivia and dealt out a resounding thrashing.
The Tottenham star played in an advanced central midfield role and put in an improved performance as Argentina whacked Bolivia 7-0 in Houston, Texas.
Two goals apiece for Lionel Messi, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Sergio Aguero had Argentina at six before Angel Correa tied things up in the 84th minute.
Lamela played well, showing off some exquisite passing in particular. However it did take him a while to get into the game so the feelings toward his performance were mixed on Twitter.
Once again the Tottenham man proved divisive rather than decisive but Tottennham fans will hope he returns full of confidence after the show of faith in him by Argentina.
Here is some of the best reaction on Twitter…
