Indeed, Shelvey delivered a calm and composed performance within the Three Lions' midfield, even if he remained relatively untested against the European minnows.
And Aston Villa man Gardner summed the 23-year-old's performance up with a short but full-of-praise tweet.

The Aston Villa faithful may hope Gardner can emulate Shelvey's progression, with the Villans midfielder the same age as the Swansea man.
Shelvey and Gerrard shared a pitch together many times and there were big hopes at Liverpool that the 23-year-old could go on to develop into a Gerrardesque player.
Now that both have left Anfield, though, some are still making the comparison.
The boy shelvey can spot a pass by the way!! Gerrard esq! #Eng— Dean Ashton (@Dean36ashton10) September 5, 2015
Without Jack Wilshere (absent through injury) the Swansea midfielder may well have a strong chance of continuing within this England team. There is still some way to go before Shelvey can be compared to Liverpool legend Gerrard in terms of overall ability, of course, but he is certainly impressing so far this season.
