Alan Shearer and Andy Cole react on Twitter to Harry Kane's England performance

The prolific former strikers were delighted to see the Tottenham Hotspur man hit the scoresheet against San Marino.

Roy Hodgson may have done Tottenham a big favour on Saturday evening, giving Harry Kane a second-half run out as England beat San Marino 6-0.

The Three Lions boss didn't necessarily have to take Wayne Rooney off but, once he did, it all made sense - both for Rooney and Kane.

The Tottenham striker netted with a calm & composed chipped finish, which should do his confidence the world of good.

Naturally, the issue with the 22-year-old has never been about his ability and might not even be about his form. It's to do with his service and getting the right chances.

Against San Marino - and it was only San Marino - Kane got that chance and put it away. While he was at it, he impressed a certain Andy Cole on Twitter...

And England legend Alan Shearer was also pleased to see the Spurs man in among the goals once more:

Soon it'll be up to Kane to do the same for Tottenham - and against Premier League opposition. Naturally, that will also work in tandem with Mauricio Pochettino's midfielders and wingers, who will have to offer the 22-year-old the right support. The likes of Clinton Njie and Heung-Min Son may well help, though...
