Report: Everton reportedly planning to make move for free agent Yoann Gourcuff

Everton are reportedly keen on signing Yoann Gourcuff on a free transfer.

The transfer window might have closed earlier this week, but that has not stopped the Liverpool Echo linking Everton with signing another player in the coming days.

According a report in the paper, the Toffees are looking at bringing in French playmaker Yoann Gourcuff, the 29-year-old who is currently without a club.

Formerly of Rennes and Lyon, 32-capped international Gourcuff is known for his stylish technical play, but he is always considered someone who has never lived up to his potential.

An injury ravaged career has seen his time at the top of the game cut short, but he is undoubtedly a supremely talented player when taking to the field.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez completed little transfer business over the summer, and is still on the look out for a new number 10. However, now that the transfer window is closed, free agents are the only possible signings that can be made until January.

This has left few options on the table, and the report states that Martinez has looked at Gourcuff, who has also been in the sights of rival Premier League side Newcastle United, as well as Serie A giants Roma.

There are no indications that Everton are set to offer him a contract yet, or if they are only showing a light interest in the midfielder, but Gourcuff is one of few options available if Martinez truly intends to bring in another player in the coming weeks.
