Paul Merson predicts West Ham’s league finish, has advice for Slaven Bilic

Paul Merson does not expect too much from West Ham United this season.

Former Arsenal and Aston Villa attacker Paul Merson has predicted on that West Ham United will finish as low as 14th in the Premier League table this season.

The ex-Arsenal and Villa star does not seem to be impressed with the signings the Hammers made in the summer transfer window.

Merson, who played for Middlesbrough and Portsmouth as well as for Arsenal and Villa, believes that Slaven Bilic’s side need to win games against sides who are in the bottom half of the league table.

“When West Ham (14) are not expected to win, they turn it on and when they have home games against teams that are going to be in the bottom half they get beat - so that needs to change,” the former England international wrote on

“The fans need to be a little bit more patient at home. Away from home, the shackles can come off.”

Could Paul Merson’s prediction come true?

Merson does not seem to rate West Ham highly, but the London club’s fans should be optimistic of a successful season.

The Hammers signed Pedro Obiang, Dimitri Payet, Angelo Ogbonna, Carl Jenkinson, Manuel Lanzini, Michail Antonio, Victor Moses and Alex Song among others in the summer transfer window.

Manager Bilic now has a very good and talented squad which is capable of breaking into the top eight of the Premier League table this term.
