Former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor has taken to social networking site Twitter to wish Kevin Davies the best of luck following his retirement from the professional game.
Ex-England international striker Davies announced his retirement from the professional game earlier today, having featured for the likes of Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers.
Mellor, who played for West Ham United and Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Liverpool and Preston North End respectively, has sent the 38-year-old Davies the following message on Twitter:
@Kevin__Davies well done on your contribution throughout your career. All the best for the future in your next challenge.— Neil Mellor (@NeilMellor33) September 4, 2015
Davies had been without a club since leaving Preston at the end of last season, having played his part in them getting promoted from League One to the Championship.
The Englishman started his career at Chesterfield before joining Southampton in 1997. Davies also played for Blackburn, but his best came during a 10-year-old spell with Bolton.
During his time with Bolton, Davies scored 85 goals in 407 matches.
