Former Gunner Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that he feels Tottenham Hotspur ended up buying anyone they could during the summer transfer window.
Merson has suggested that Spurs hit the panic button when they looked to improve certain options in their side, with Mauricio Pochettino having been under intense pressure to improve his attack.
However, Merson has suggested that it wasn’t all doom and gloom for his old rivals, with two summer arrivals at White Hart Lane impressing him.
“I like Toby Alderweireld and I like what I've seen of Heung-Min Son, but I do think they needed another centre-forward and they were desperate to sign Saido Berahino,” he told Sky Sports.
“I need to give them a B- because they didn't get what they needed and ended up buying anybody they could.”
Time to buckle down and move on
Tottenham may not have signed one of their first choice options and they may not have added all of the cover that the manager would have been hoping for.
However, there’s nothing they can do about that until January so they now need to get stuck in and make the most of what they do have in their squad.
Tottenham do have plenty of talent in key areas and the manager did well to improve his defensive options earlier in the transfer window.
There is also still that lingering need to get that pressure away from Harry Kane and hopefully Son Heung-Min and Clinton Njie will be able to step up and do just that.
