Former Gunner Paul Merson has suggested it will take time for Aston Villa's summer signings to bed in at the club.
Villa brought in a number of players over the summer, backed up by the cash generated from selling Fabian Delph to Manchester City and Christian Benteke to Liverpool.
Manager Tim Sherwood had to improve his options because there is a pressure on the club to improve from nearly being relegated in the last campaign.
“I wonder how quickly these new lads will settle. They have let Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph go and they have spent the money,” he told Sky Sports.
“I think Joleon Lescott is a good player and with Micah Richards there they will have experience. I like Rudy Gestede up front and I like the way Tim Sherwood has bought. Staying up is going to be hard.”
All boxes ticked
Sherwood deserves some credit because although the new players may take a bit of time to settle in, the boss has made sure that he’s got cover in every position.
Most importantly, as Merson suggests, he’s added quality and experience to his defence, which should make the side much more difficult to break down over the next few months.
It will be interesting to see the style and system that Sherwood settles on once the latest international break is over and how he looks to get the best out of the players who have signed deals to commit their futures to Villa Park.
