Manchester United fans react on Twitter to James Wilson's debut performance for England Under-21s

The young striker scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against the USA Under-23 side.

England under-21s took on the USA under-23 side yesterday in a friendly at Deepdale, with one Manchester United man firing a timely reminder to Louis van Gaal that he is still around.

Whilst team-mates Matteo Darmian and Marouane Fellaini were getting man of the match and scoring on international duty themselves respectively Wilson had a dream debut for the age group.

He scored with his first touch, a poacher’s goal from yards out. Duncan Watmore’s run had been blocked but the ball ricocheted into Wilson’s path – and he scored a goal former United hero Ruud van Nistelrooy would have been proud of.

His goal was not the only highlight of his performance. His pace caused trouble and he also played a delectable through ball that would have made Juan Mata stand and salute.

It was a timely performance. United boss Van Gaal is short of striking options and after recently allowing Adnan Januzaj to join Borussia Dortmund on loan, as well as signing Anthony Martial for a whopping fee, nobody seems to know the attacking plans for LvG going forward.

Wilson will just hope his goal gives him a chance of creeping into the fold.

Here is how United fans reacted on Twitter…
