With the former Bolton Wanderers favourite hanging up his boots, we decided to look back at a team containing Cristiano Ronaldo and Jason Dodd.

The world of football mourned the loss of an increasingly rare breed in the English top-flight this week - Kevin Davies, who announced his decision to the BBC.

A barrel-chested behemoth in his peak years with Bolton Wanderers, Davies also featured for Southampton and Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League and more recently for Preston North End in League One, though it was with the Trotters than he found real form.

Oh, and he was also capped a couple of times by England, where his rough and ready approach earned him more yellow cards than goals.

But as the dust settles on a memorable career, one video featuring the former Three Lions Frankenstein-like experiment still provides reason to smile.

Asked by the Football Association to come up with his dream team of players he has either played against or with, Davies' starting 11 is a real delight.

The presence of Jussi Jaaskelainen in goal and the pairing of Jay-Jay Okocha in the centre of midfield offers a nod to his Bolton days.

Elsewhere, Matthew Le Tissier and Cristiano Ronaldo roam the flanks, with Thierry Henry partnered by Daniel Sturridge up front, with the latter included simply because he spent time on loan with the Trotters.

Yet it’s the full-backs that prove the oddest of the selections, with Southampton stalwart Jason Dodd joined by Ricardo Gardner.

Now, we don’t want to pour cold water on Davies’ selections but are these really the finest full-backs he ever played with or against?

Bear in mind that this is a guy who featured against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United in their Premier League pomps.

And yet Dodd and Gardner are seen as the best of the bunch.

It just doesn’t make sense to us. Mind you, this did come from a man who once took to Twitter to get help making toast.

Toast. And he already had a toaster. The clue was in the name, Kev.
