Tottenham Hotspur media round-up: Wanyama reluctant to sign new contract

A round up of news stories this morning about Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Star has reported that Victor Wanyama is reluctant to sign a new deal with Southampton.

Tottenham tried to sign the midfielder on transfer deadline day, but were thwarted in their efforts with a rejected bid.

The paper states that the Saints are trying to tie him down to their club for the next five seasons.

Former Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon has told the Daily Mirror that he was nervous that his move to Everton wouldn’t go through in time.

Lennon moved to the Toffees in transfer deadline day after it became apparent that he didn’t have a future at Spurs.

Tottenham netted around the £4 million mark for selling their long serving player.

“Yeah, around 4 o’clock I started getting a bit nervous! I was rushing around London at that point and you’re just hoping it all goes through, with all the paperwork and everything,” he said.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has defended the club as he spoke to ESPN regarding their deadline day move for Baggies forward Saido Berahino.

West Brom accused Spurs of unsettling the player and going about the transfer in the wrong way, with only £5 million reportedly to be paid up front.

However, Levy has offered an insight into how modern day transfers work.

“Firstly, there is hardly a transfer concluded across Europe which doesn't include staged payments. This is particularly so when significant amounts such as £20m-£30m are involved,” he said.
