He said: “What Idrissa give you is 100% every time he plays. He is wholehearted, he suits the Premier League and he loves the pace of the game. He is very aggressive, he gets at people, wants to tackle and wants to get on the football. He is brave in and out of possession - and that's something you want to see.”
Gueye moved to Villa Park in July, completing a switch from Ligue 1 side Lille, and has since become a key player for Sherwood’s team.
He has started all four Premier League games so far this campaign, and has been one of the better performing players in Villa’s squad, utilising his energetic midfielder play to great effect.
The 25-year-old has a pass completion ratio of 84.4%, and is registering more than one shot and key pass per game on average. He is also an incredible defensive presence, winning 4.3 tackles and three interceptions each time he turns out.
Gueye looks to have been one of the better signings of the summer transfer window, and Sherwood certainly seems correct to claim that the Senegalese international is perfect for the Premier League.
