The Aston Villa boss has been discussing his role in the club's signings.
Sherwood is quoted as saying by the Birmingham Mail: "If they are a success they are down to me. If they are a failure it’s also down to me.
"I’ve got no excuse. I won’t be blaming anyone else. You can do that if they’re not your players and if you have to work with what you are dealt. But that’s not what happens here.
"It’s really important to ascertain what each person does. There are all sorts of names like technical director, sporting director etc.I certainly know what my part of the unit is.
"At every club that role is different. Certainly in Europe, the manager is dealt the players and he gets on with it. That’s certainly not what happens here."
Aston Villa sold no less than 14 players this summer and signed no less than 13 replacements. Of the new recruits, every supporters will no doubt have their own opinion - but three that have stood out are Idrissa Gueye, Jordan Amavi and Rudy Gestede.
Joleon Lescott was also added to Villa's back line on an exciting Deadline Day, bringing experience and competition to Sherwood's defence.
After the international break, Aston Villa will travel to in-form Leicester City, before a potential reunion with his former side for Joleon lescott, with Villa hosting West Brom. Another local derby then lies in wait in the Capital One Cup against Birmingham City.
