When DeAndre Yedlin first arrived at Tottenham Hotspur, those fans who had seen him shine for the USA at the World Cup could not wait to see him in action at White Hart Lane.
But things have not quite gone according to plan to date, with the right-back-cum-winger featuring just once for Mauricio Pochettino’s side – and that as a late substitute against Aston Villa at the tail-end of last season.
With Kieran Trippier signing this summer and Kyle Walker already in place, it always looked a tough prospect for Yedlin to force his way into the right-back spot, while he has not been used further up the field as many Tottenham fans would like.
As a result he headed out on loan to Sunderland on deadline day, where both club’s fans will be hoping he fulfils his considerable potential.
It is worth remembering that Yedlin is still only 22 and he has not been in England for very long, so this season could go a long way to deciding what route his future will take.
A fine showing for Sunderland and he could head back to Tottenham as a future star; after all, a similar move worked wonders for Danny Rose a few years back.
Following the news we took to Twitter to see what Tottenham and Sunderland fans thought of Yedlin’s move and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Yedlin to Sunderland on loan is done. Was a great move for Danny Rose, hopefully works out for DeAndre.— VM David (@VocalMinoritySD) September 1, 2015

LRT. Best part of today. Hope he impresses Sunderland. And in the end, impresses Pochettino & Klinsman #Yedlin— Matt (@OsideHotspur) September 1, 2015
It's hilarious how butthurt Americans are over Yedlin. Simple fact is that he's nowhere near good enough for a team like Spurs yet.— Matt (@likeavillasboas) September 2, 2015
