Javier Hernandez is settling into life at Bayer Leverkusen, making his bow in a friendly.

Javier Hernandez has made his first appearance for Bayer Leverkusen, starring in a friendly match for the German side.

The Mexican nicknamed Chicharito made his permanent transfer from Manchester United to Leverkusen on Monday, the day of the Bundesliga deadline.

He played as a starter in a friendly against Paderborn, and featured for 73 minutes in a 2-0 win, although did not find the net.

More than 3,000 fans turned out to see the forward in action, and start to strike up a rapport with target man Stefan Kiessling.

Hernandez told Bayer Leverkusen's official website: "I am happy to have played for so long. The communication with the other players worked really well. I look forward to the next time."

He now heads off on international duty with Mexico, with fans crossing their finger he returns healthy.

The match will have benefitted him, considering the rusty way he started the season for Manchester United, failing to impress Louis van Gaal in his substitute showings.

He now has a fresh start in Germany, and fans who recall his stunning debut season at Old Trafford will have little doubt he can be a success if he is afforded the opportunity to start regularly.
