Is Liam Moore the deal Leeds United will rue missing out on?

Leeds lost out on Liam Moore to Bristol City - Is it the one deadline day deal they will rue?

Leeds United had a strong transfer window, and added to their ranks by signing winger Jordan Botaka from Excelsior on transfer deadline day.

If there was one player who slipped through their grasp however, it was Leicester City defender Liam Moore.

Moore signed on loan with Bristol City, who drew 2-2 with Leeds a fortnight ago, a deal which The BBC reported will run until January.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported last week that Leeds head coach Uwe Rosler went to watch Moore in action in the Capital One Cup.

It is unclear if Leeds made an approach and if they did, what the circumstances were which led to them missing out, but the England under-21 international would have completed a successful transfer window for the Whites.

As it was it was a positive summer. Importantly Leeds held onto academy quartet Byram, Taylor, Mowatt and Cook, and added players in areas they were lacking.

This included wingers Jordan Botaka and Stuart Dallas, signing good cover in goal in Ross Turnbull, and a target man in attack in Chris Wood.

Tom Adeyemi was a smart addition on loan, while Lee Erwin is still waiting for his debut, so there are plenty of positive takeaways for the club.

Leeds may have been unable to guarantee Liam Moore regular football, with Giuseppe Bellusci and Liam Cooper already battling for a centre-back spot alongside captain Sol Bamba, but in terms of adding squad depth, the defender would have been excellent cover, and had the potential to win a starting role with the Whites.

If injuries are kind to Leeds then they will not overly miss him, providing Cooper and Bellusci maintain form, but if they are not so fortunate then missing out will be even more of a disappointment.

He was not essential, but if there was a cherry on top Leeds were missing on their transfer window cake, Moore could have been it.
