Aston Villa have confirmed on their official website that they have signed Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori on a season-long loan deal.
Ilori, 22, was actually born in England, but represents Portugal at international level, racking up 36 appearances over the course of his time with their youth teams.
The defender joined Liverpool in 2013 having impressed with Sporting Lisbon, but he has yet to even make his debut for the Reds, spending time out on loan at Granada and Bordeaux instead.
Now, despite Liverpool's terrible defensive showings over the last two years, Ilori has once again been sent away from Anfield, this time joining Aston Villa on a season-long loan.
The deal was something of a surprise considering that Villa had already signed Micah Richards and Joleon Lescott this summer, but Ilori will get the opportunity to impress under Villa boss Tim Sherwood.
Villa fans reacted on Twitter to the deal, and urged their manager to test Ilori at right back, despite him naturally being a centre back, and whilst most supporters were happy to see Ilori arrive, others questioned the move, believing that Villa didn't need another central defender.
Meanwhile, Liverpool fans were incredibly disappointed to see Ilori leave the club once again, blasting manager Brendan Rodgers for his refusal to give Ilori a chance - and there is definitely a sense amongst the Anfield faithful that letting him leave permanently could be a huge mistake.
Here are some of the reactions from Aston Villa and Liverpool fans after Ilori completed his move to Villa Park on deadline day...
The more I learn about Tiago Ilori the more excited I am that we've signed him. #AVFC— Adam Williams (@AdzW90) September 1, 2015
Having watched Ilori throughout his whole career (U14 games included) I think we've got a bit of a player on our hands here #avfc— Baldy (@UGotLittUp) September 1, 2015
Ilori could be an excellent loan signing for #avfc. Well done Tim Sherwood and the other Villa staff for a brilliant transfer window!— Khizar Jamil (@khizzy) September 1, 2015
Ilori is an odd signing, plenty of cover for the centre back spot already, could Richards be moving to right back? #AVFC— Heart Of The Holte (@HeartOfTheHolte) September 1, 2015
Just seen the Ilori deal includes Villa the option to buy him next season. Don't understand the reason in not giving him a chance first #LFC— ShahLFC (@ShahLFC94) September 2, 2015
After a performance against West Ham that showed where we are defensively, we then go and ship Ilori to Villa. What a joke. #LFC— Josh Wakerman (@joshwakerman) September 1, 2015
Embarrassing how Ilori was swept to one side whilst we defended horrifically for so long under rodgers #LFC— Jonathan Fowler (@JonathanFowle10) September 1, 2015
