Sunderland will reportedly not be signing Liverpool's Tiago Ilori on loan

The Liverpool defender had been linked with a temporary spell at the Stadium of Light.

According to a report from Sky Sports News, Liverpool centre-back Tiago Ilori will not be signing for Sunderland on transfer deadline day.

A recent story from the Mirror claimed the Portuguese defender was a target for the Black Cats on loan, with Sunderland manager dick Advocaat reportedly tracking the youngster for the last six months.

That report added that Liverpool would not stand in Ilori’s way if he wanted to temporarily leave Anfield for another loan – after similar moves to Granada and Bordeaux – but now Sky Sports have ruled out such a move with less than 10 hours remaining in this window.

The latest quote from Sky Sports News regarding Sunderland reads: “They’re looking for one more. They’re looking for a defender but that defender will not be Tiago Ilori, the young Liverpool defender.”

Considering the players ahead of him in the Anfield pecking order right now, it would be somewhat surprising if the 22-year-old did not head out somewhere in the coming hours.

After all, he is still to make his senior debut for the club and is currently part of their under-21 side despite his considerable talent.

A loan move to Sunderland would have shown Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers what Ilori can do in the Premier League but it seems one club at least will not be benefitting from his talent this season.
