Report: Joleon Lescott to complete Aston Villa medical, two-year contract agreed

Aston Villa are reportedly poised to sign West Brom defender Joleon Lescott.

According to The Telegraph, West Bromwich Albion defender Joleon Lescott will undergo a medical with Aston Villa today ahead of his move to Villa Park.

Villa have snapped up ten new signings already this summer, including defenders Jordan Amavi, Micah Richards and Jose Crespo.

Still, having let Ron Vlaar leave the club on a free transfer upon the expiration of his contract, manager Tim Sherwood is still in the market for an experienced centre back to lead his side - and he appears to be closing in on a deal to sign one.

The Telegraph report that, with just hours to go in the transfer window, Villa are poised to complete a deal for West Brom defender Joleon Lescott.

The 33-year-old defender, who joined the Baggies from Manchester City last summer, is a boyhood Villa fan, and is set to make his move to Villa Park after West Brom sealed the signing of Jonny Evans over the weekend.

With a £1.5m fee agreed and a two-year contract accepted, Lescott will now undergo a medical later today as he puts the finishing touches to his deal.

Adding an experienced Premier League veteran in Lescott is a smart move by Sherwood, as he has plenty of wisdom and leadership that he can pass on to Villa's young defenders.
