Report: Celtic not pursuing Steven Fletcher deal, player expected to remain with Sunderland

Celtic are not looking to sign Sunderland striker Fletcher, despite reported interest in the striker.

According to the Sunderland Echo, Steven Fletcher will remain a Black Cats player past the close of the transfer deadline today, despite reports claiming Celtic wanted to sign him.

The Scotsman reported yesterday that Celtic were looking to push through a late deal for Fletcher, 28, attempting to sign the forward on a loan deal following his falling out of favour at the Stadium of Light.

His first-team chances look limited under head coach Dick Advocaat, and due to being one of the higher earning players, the Black Cats were not against selling Fletcher.

However, the report today in the Echo indicates that Fletcher will still be a Sunderland player come the close of business today, as Celtic were never seriously looking at Fletcher, and have been tracking other targets instead.

The Black Cats are still open to listening to offers for Fletcher, but with no other teams showing an active interest in him, Advocaat believes the forward - who is out of contract next year - will be remaining on Wearside this season.
