As confirmed by the club’s official website, Watford have signed Obbi Oulare from Club Brugge.
The Belgium Under-21 international built quite a reputation in Belgium as a powerful striker capable of finding the net with regularity, attracting plenty of interest from abroad in the process.
A report in the Daily Mail claimed that several clubs were tracking the striker, but it is Watford who have taken the gamble to bring him in.
Oulare, standing at 6ft 5inch, started his career at Brussels and had spells as a youth at Anderlecht, Lille and Standard Liege before joining Club Brugge in 2013.
He has represented Belgium at all youth levels up to the U21 squad, where he earned just one cap after scoring an impressive five goals in six matches at U19 level.
Oulare becomes Watford’s 12th permanent signing of the summer, although it is hard to envisage the player getting much first-team action due to such heavy competition for places.
Manager Quique Flores has a tough ask on his hands integrating a number of players this season, but so far the signs are good and the addition of Oulare clearly shows the club are also building for the future.
