Indeed, the former Sunderland man feels both would be good additions at the Stadium of Light in terms of defensive and attacking qualities.
The only question, of course, is whether the Wearside outfit will land either of the defenders. Enrique has been linked with a Liverpool exit for some time.
Enrique or alonso have been suggested for left back. I would go along with that.. Both solid defenders that can also do well offensive #dafc— michael gray (@mickygray33) September 1, 2015
Liverpool's Enrique, however, has been linked with a move to West Brom by Sky Sports, which could scupper Gray's suggestions.
That said, Alonso could still end up at Sunderland - although there are less concrete links as to whether that will happen.
Sunderland fans have been desperate for owner Ellis Short to provide manager Dick Advocaat with funds to further strengthen their side and, once the deadline passes, the Black Cats will simply have to deal with what they have already got.
Advocaat's men lost their first two Premier League games of the season in embarrassing fashion but bounced back with two creditable draws, although they are yet to win in the league.
