Sunderland have struck a deal with Liverpool to sign Fabio Borini.
The Italian forward returns to the club he signed for on loan in 2013/14, where he scored 10 goals in 40 games in all competitions.
He pushed to stay and prove himself at Liverpool last season, and received opportunities with Daniel Sturridge out injured, but failed to step up.
Borini netted only one goal for the Reds last year, and his chances dwindled as the campaign went on.
He was one of Brendan Rodgers' first signings for the club after taking over in 2013, but was unable to ever really establish himself.
Sunderland is a safe option for him, where he will have a fresh start to prove himself in the Premier League, but with the Black Cats likely facing a relegation battle based on their early season for, failure to produce could be costly.
Here is a look at how Sunderland fans reacted to his transfer...
Borini to score a penalty at SJP and stand on the advertising board winding all the mags up.. That has to happen again.. Has to #safc— Joe Smith (@Joecsmith11) August 31, 2015
I always expected to see Fabio Borini back at #SAFC. Admittedly, I thought it'd be on a 2 month loan from the MLS when he was 35, but still.— Michael Graham (@Capt_Fishpaste) August 31, 2015
And here's what Liverpool supporters have had to say...
Good luck to Borini. Should have been given more games #LFC— Patrick Kearns (@fachy16) August 31, 2015
Well it's official. Fabio Borini is no longer a Liverpool player. Good luck to the lad #LFC— The Annie Road View (@AnnieRoadView) August 31, 2015
